About Us



Theresa Dotson Alexander, MS, LPC, NCC is the founder of The Center for Counseling & Training.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Central Missouri State University and completed her Master of Science in Psychology degree there as well. Theresa moved to Lafayette County in 2006 where she worked as a therapist for Rodgers-Lafayette Health & Dental Center in Lexington, Missouri. In 2008, she started The Center for Counseling & Training. She has worked in many different settings and with all demographics throughout her career. She has been trained in working with offenders of domestic violence, teen issues, family and relationship matters, PTSD, victims of domestic violence, depression, anxiety, and many other areas. Theresa is a member of the National Board of Certified Counselors and the Missouri Mental Health Care Association. She has over 15 years of experience in the mental health and social services field.
Theresa’s approach is strength-based and positive. She enjoys working with all ages of clients and often uses humor as a way to help them manage stress. She is available for individual, couples, family, and group counseling as well as court-ordered and court-related matters.

Elizabeth McKinley, Med, EdS, LPC, RPT has been with The Center for Counseling and Training (TCCT) since June of 2012. She worked as a school counselor and school psychological examiner in the Trenton R-IX School District in Trenton, MO before joining the team at TCCT. Elizabeth earned her masters degree in guidance and counseling at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO and her Education Specialist at University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO in Human Services and Counseling. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist. She sees children as young as three years old as well as adolescents. Elizabeth also sees adult women and is a co-facilitator of the anger management and batter's intervention groups at TCCT which includes being part of the S.T.O.P. Domestic Violence team for Lafayette County.  




Vicki Knipmeyer is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Missouri. She joined the team at The Center for Counseling & Training in November 2011. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, and is currently completing the requirements to become a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) with the Association for Play Therapy. She recently moved to Lafayette County from the St. Louis area, where she worked as a school social worker for 6 years. She also has experience working with individuals who have experienced family violence.
As a therapist, Vicki believes that every individual and family has strengths to draw on, and that it is important to look beyond just individual challenges to include work with the family, school, and community. She is passionate about meeting every client where they are at developmentally using a variety of interventions and techniques.

Mike Koch, MS, PLPC has worked for the Missouri Division of Youth Services at Waverly Regional Youth Center since 1991. During that time he was in residential program management for 12 years. He has been a Regional Family Specialist for the past 10 years, providing individual and family counseling for the students who are placed there. His experience in residential treatment has allowed him to work extensively with survivors of trauma (sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect and domestic violence), adolescents and children with sexual harming behaviors, substance abuse, and mental health disorders. He has experience doing group therapy with juvenile sex offenders, and has a certification as a juvenile sexual offender counselor.
Mike received his Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology from Avila University in 2010. He served my internship at the Child Abuse Protection Association in Independence, Missouri, where he gained experience in non-directive play therapy.
Mike is currently completing requirements for his Education Specialist Degree in Counseling from the University of Central Missouri. Mike joined The Center for Counseling & Training in June 2013 and is being supervised for his licensure by Theresa Dotson Alexander, MS, LPC, NCC. He prefers to work with middle school and high school students, adults of all ages, people with mild intellectual disabilities, couples and families.
